MARC JACOBS BEAUTY Swatches, Dupes, and a Bit of a Review

Monday, August 12, 2013

I am sure you all know by now that Marc Jacobs has released his own line of cosmetics. I have one word for this...dangerous.

I was at the mall with my husband, and we strolled into Sephora to pick up some "necessities". As we were leisurely walking around, my beauty senses started tingling, and BAM there it was... the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY stand. I wasn't sure if it was going to be available in store, and to my wallet's disadvantage, it was standing right in front of me.

We started swatching everything!!! My husband was swatching things as soon as I started running out of room on my arms. The excitement was just too much for the both of us (I know Keegan just plays along to make me happy, and it works.) so we picked out a couple things to bring home.

Marc Jacobs 116 Happy Ending Lip Gel

I am so in love with this formula! It is very similar to Dior Addict lipsticks, except these lip gels have more of an intense pigmentation. Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with my dear Dior Addicts, they are still perfection to me. These lip gels just give the option of having a moisturizing wear with more color:) Also, the packaging is something out of this world. It is so heavy duty, and is magnetic so you don't have to worry about losing a lid in your hand bag!

Here are some other SIMILAR lip colors I found in my collection. I couldn't find any exact dupes.

Left to Right:

Marc Jacobs Lip Gel 116 Happy Ending

Maybelline Fuschia Flash

Dior Addict Extreme 476 Plaza

The next item I had to have was this stunning bright pink blush

Marc Jacobs Shameless Bold Blush 216 Rebellious

Take a minute to just take in the beauty of this packaging...ahhh. I love this little silver push button that allows for easy reveal of the prize inside. This blush is BOLD and the formula is silky smooth. I could not believe that this little brush was usable, but it is, and I used it:)

Here is the most similar blush in my collection to Rebellious

Left to Right:

Marc Jacobs Shameless Bold Blush 216 Rebellious

LORAC Baked Matte Satin Blush Flaunt

Flaunt is a bit more blue based, and takes more swipes to get a bold color. Rebellious takes one, to two swipes for a bold, yet refined look. There is no comparison when it comes to formula. Marc Jacobs hit it out of the park with his blush formula! I have read some not so great reviews. All I know is, the blushes I have swatched, have beautiful silky smooth formulas, and amazing pigmentation.

Oh glorious eye shadow palettes!!! I want them all...
Being a budget friendly shopper, I only picked up ONE eye shadow palette. My husband and I are so proud. So without further waiting around, here is THE STARLET!!!

Marc Jacobs 204 The Starlet

This palette is absolutely stunning McMuffins times a million. The formula is so smooth, glowy, pigmented, and luscious. You have to go swatch some of these bad boys in store!

This palette is perfect for summer bronzy looks that will take you well into fall and winter. These colors are so versatile and neutral, yet bold enough not to be boring and lumped in with your average neutral palette.

Let's get on to swatchin!
I did find some dupes in my collection that I thought you guys would be interested in. Even though these shadows have dupes/impostors, their look alikes do not have the same smooth formula.

These shadows were swatched with a MAC 213.

The bottom swatches are The Starlet Palette swatched in order, and the the top swatches are the dupes.

Left to Right Dupes

The Starlet 1 DUPE:
NARS Ondine

The Starlet 2 DUPE:
LORAC Pro Palette Champagne

The Starlet 3 DUPE:
NARS Galapagos

The Starlet 4 DUPE:
LORAC Pro Palette Garnet

The Starlet 5 DUPE:
Urban Decay Half Baked

The Starlet 6 DUPE:
Urban Decay Glinda Palette Oz ( the silver half)

The Starlet 7 DUPE:
Urban Decay Pistol

I hope this dupe/impostor list was helpful! I really hope everyone goes to swatch town at Sephora soon, because I think you guys will really love Marc Jacobs Beauty.

Overall, I am beyond pleased and happy with the items I picked up. I am sure I will be adding more Marc Jacobs Beauty items to my collection!

GET YOUR ANTI AGE ON! Lady Soma Renewal Serum REVIEW

Wednesday, August 7, 2013

I get so many questions about my skincare routine, and what products I use to keep my skin in excellent condition. The truth is ladies, my skin is never in excellent condition. I always use the magic of makeup to cover my imperfections! That is until recently, when I started using Lady Soma Renewal Serum.

I have battled redness, random breakouts, and discoloration from cystic blemishes since we have moved to Washington state. I don't know what it is about this climate, but it always has my skin doing something weird. I have never had skin issues like this until we made the move here.

About a month ago I was asked to do a review for Lady Soma Renewal Serum. I had never heard of the brand or a serum quite like it, so out of curiosity and a bit of desperation to get my skin on track... I said YES.

I have never used a serum in my skincare routine, so I was really excited to see the benefits of using one. I have been using "anti-aging" products for a couple of years, and have seen a bit of improvement of fine lines and pore size. I have never seen results so immediate like the results I saw with this serum.

Here are the claims from the Lady Soma website:

The Renewal Serum penetrates deep into the dermal layer of the skin to repair damaged skin. The serum stimulates the development of new skin cells with the power of Hyaluronic Acid & Vitamin A. The formula diminishes the appearances of lines, minor scars, age spots, and sun damage for fresh looking skin. It may be used as a skin brightener to restore complexion and enable an even skin tone.

Paraben free & hypoallergenic
Organic ingredients

Key Benefits
• Clears damaged skin cells by penetrating the dermal layer
• Enhances glow and clarity
• Regenerates healthy skin cells
• Repairs facial scar tissue

These are some amazing claims for one little serum! I do know that hyaluronic acid and vitamin A are must haves for an anti-aging product to work. Now lets see my before and after photos. The time between the before and after photos is about 3 weeks.
WARNING these may scare you, my face is NAKED.

So sorry...
Let's get past these terrifying images and talk about the results. As you can see, I have a major reduction in:

Uneven Skin tone

You really can't argue with these results. My skin just looks over all healthier and more vibrant! I cannot say enough good things about this serum. I have noticed that if I have even the smallest blemish, this serum kicks it in the butt and off my face. I mean how cool is that?

Lady Soma went from an unknown brand, that I really had my doubts about, to a household name in my book. My face is simply a different face. A fresher face for sure!
If you are looking for a serum to add your routine, I highly recommend Lady Soma Renewal Serum. When you get into your 20's, it is time to really start thinking about an anti-aging skin routine. I am so glad I started one.

Rating A++++++++
(that's a lot of plus signs because this serum did a lot of hard work)

BYE BYE PORES HD Micro-Powder by IT Cosmetics REVIEW

Monday, July 29, 2013

Let's talk about something gross...PORES.
Pore is a disgusting word, that never fails to make me cringe when I have to say it. Not only do I hate saying the word PORE, I hate looking at my pores.
I was blessed with fairly large PORES that never want to shrink, no matter how many pore minimizers I use. I have tried so many powders, serums, scrubs, and moisturizers to get these holes in my face to diminish. I thought It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores HD Micro-Powder would be no exception.
Let me just start with what the claims that It Cosmetics states:

Bye Bye Pores HD Micro Finishing Powder is the perfect setting powder and all over face finishing powder. This powder is infused with hydro collagen to smooth lines, luxurious silk for a poreless finish, and vitamin K to help reduce discoloration. It also contains anti-aging anti-oxidants Vitamins A, C, and E to help ward off free radicals throughout the day. This translucent formula works on most skin tones. Talc, paraben, sulfate, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, and phthalate free. Hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic.

Ingredients: Silica + Collagen, Vitamins A, C, E & K, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Hydrolyzed Silk Protein, May Contain: Iron Oxide CI 77492

That is a lot of promises for one product ladies. I had to find out if this powder really is THAT amazing. Here are my BEFORE and AFTER pictures so you all can see for yourself.

The before nastiness is on the left, and the not so bad "hey where are my pores" is on the right.

In these pictures I have only applied Dior Hydra Life Creme, and Dior Nude BB Cream. I did not use any kind of primer or serum to reduce my pore size.

As you can see, the appearance of my pores has diminished greatly! I could not be more pleased with the results that Bye Bye Pores has given me. It is a matte finish powder, that does not leave my dry skin feeling dry or uncomfortable. It also does not settle into my pores giving me "white freckles" like other HD powders.  I have been wearing this powder for a week and no breakouts have ensued. No breakouts from an HD powder? That is amazing for me and my ULTRA sensitive skin.

As for the decrease in appearance of my dark spots and discoloration left from pimples, I have yet to see a major difference. Like I said, I have only used this powder for a week. I had a girl tell me on Instagram ( that this powder has done wonders for her dark spots and discoloration. I definitely look forward to what my dark spots will look like in the near future:)

Overall I HIGHLY recommend Bye Bye Pores as an everyday setting powder. It has wonderful ingredients that improve your skin, diminish the look of pores, do not irritate the skin, and have no flashback in photos.
There is not much more I could ask for in a HD setting powder!

OOTD Heat Wave and Statement Earrings

Saturday, June 29, 2013

It has been so chilly all season, and suddenly we have a heat advisory. I quickly started pulling out all of my old tank tops and sandals to prepare for this change.
There is no better way to jazz up an old neutral tank, than to throw on some amazing statement earrings.
Most of these beauties are from the Lily Wang shop on

I decided to throw on some understated gold pieces to compliment my statement earrings. I added my neutral Fossil watch to the mix, and bam my look was complete!!!

OK... I will admit the snow is a bit of a stretch, however it is 58 degrees outside and it is June 24th!
Most OOTD's that I see all include super cute shorts, tanks, dresses, and skirts. My OOTD's consist of sweaters, jeans, closed toed shoes and the occasional jacket.

All I can do now, is pretend I am on some tropical island, far from the marine front and the cold. I hope you guys enjoyed my winter in the summer outfit:)

OOTD Gold and Mint Details From SHOPLATELY

Monday, June 17, 2013

Once again, it is time to start doing OOTD's! I took a minor hiatus from them because life got so hectic, I just didn't have the time.
Today I had to run some errands, so I wanted to choose an outfit that is comfortable yet cute. I love dainty details, and today's outfit featured a lot of them. All my accessories are from my favorite online shop Shoplately (

I just got the Delicate Twig Necklace in the mail a couple of days ago, and it is already becoming one of my favorite necklaces. It is the perfect dainty necklace with a bit of sparkle! I absolutely love the Glint&Gleam shop on Shoplately.

Let's just talk about these adorable Forget-Me-Not Bow Stud earrings! I love them! They are small enough to not hang off of my earlobes, which might sound weird, but I love that. They are such a nice tiny pop of color!

As you can see, I love anything with a bow on it! I love combining my mint bow earrings with my Modern Bow Bracelet. This bracelet can be sized down to fit the tiniest of wrists, which is nice because I have super small wrists.  If I could, I would wear a bow on every article of clothing I have!

I also got my How Sweet Ring from the Glint&Gleam shop on Shoplately. I thought this would be my least favorite item out of my latest order, but this ring is an absolute favorite already. I love the lemon color of the stone, but most of all I love that it is a low profile ring. I think low profile rings have such a unique look that really puts a nice twist on an everyday accessory.

I absolutely love the hair ties from The Giving Girl shop! I bought a grab bag of 20 about 3 months ago, and I wear one on my wrist in-case of a hair disaster every day. They come in a wide range of colors, and are perfect for fine hair like mine, or thick hair.

The rest of what I am wearing can be found in my

NYX Wonder Pencil Review

Friday, May 31, 2013

I am so glad I picked up this miracle worker!!! The name of this pencil is no exaggeration, it is truly a WONDER PENCIL.

You can use this pencil as a concealer, waterline brightener, brow bone highlighter, inner corner highlighter, reverse lip liner, and even an eyeshadow base.
It comes in three shades: light, medium, and deep.
I picked up the shade light:)

I have used NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner in Rue Bonapart, for a waterline brightener for years. I must say that immediately replaced it with the NYX Wonder Pencil!

I love the brightening, yet natural, effect it gives the eyes:)

(swatched on NW15 skin)

Should you get it: YES

NYX Wicked Dreams Palette SWATCHES and REVIEW

I picked up the NYX Wicked Dreams Palette to use during Discount June. I honestly purchased it just for its amazing color range, not expecting the shadows to be any kind of quality. Well, I got waaaaaay more than I bargained for, because the shadows in this palette are so nicely pigmented and smooth.
If you know anything about me and my relationship with drugstore cosmetics, you know I am not a fan. I would rather have less high-end products, than a bunch of drugstore products I never use. Having said all of that, I do love when I run into drugstore gems, like this palette, that slap me in the face for judging them. Let's get into swatching this pleasant surprise of a palette....

The color range in this palette is absolutely wonderful. You get 12 (very pigmented) matte shades, and 12 shimmery shades. I am very pleased to have such great matte eyeshadows, that actually show up, in one palette.  The shimmery shades are inconsistent in color pay off. The lighter of the shimmery shades are less pigmented than the darker ones.

The shadows are swatched L to R starting from the top row.
I am swatching on NW15 skin, with no primer underneath.

Top Row L to Right:

Middle Row L to R:
(As you can see, the lighter of the shimmery shades are a bit less pigmented, but great for highlighting)

Bottome Row L to R:

I have been using this palette for the last week to prepare for some upcoming tutorials. I am pleased to say, with a primer, the shadows last all day on lid with no fading.

Price: 14.99

Should you get it: YES

Mommy Time!

Saturday, May 25, 2013

I had so much fun with my mom this past week. She flew in on the 18th, and left today:( I always miss her so much immediately  after I drop her off at the airport. I feel like a kid that is starting her first day of Kindergarten. I cry like a baby once she is gone!
I thought I would share some of the good times we had with you guys, so I wouldn't be so sad all day long.

We went to our favorite winery, Chateau Ste Michelle, and did a wine tasting and tour. It is so beautiful there, and we had such an amazing time. My mom and I were surprised we ended up LIKING white wines. We actually came away with four bottles of all white wine, and didn't even regret it!
We try to take as many serious pictures as possible, but the majority always end up crazy:)
I am not even sure what is going on in this picture, but I know we ended up laughing extremely hard!

God bless my mom for putting up with my silly self!!!

My mom is so much fun to be with and she is my best friend, through thick and thin...yes I just got cheddar cheesy!
Uh oh! I found a normal smiley photo!!!

This is us trying to take a picture, of course it always ends up a little off. We got some yummy Vietnamese for lunch:)

I know I have said it a million times, but we had such a good time, and I can't wait for her next visit! Until then, I guess it is back to the "beauty grind"! So be on the look out for some new tutorials this week.
Follow me on Instagram for more pics, and don't forget to sub to our vlog channel keeganNmallory to see my mom in the vlog today:)

Friday, May 17, 2013

Today's post is all about Sun Goddess Sunless Tanning Lotion!!!

Enough yapping, let me get to the before and after pics so you guys can see for yourselves.

OOTD Rachel Zoe Head to Toe

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Today is OBVIOUSLY a dream OOTD!!!
Rachel Zoe is for sure one of my favorite fashion icons. I feel like her collections are for the modern day 40's frame of mind women. You know the women that are always perfectly dressed, no matter where they are or what they are doing. I wish I could say that is who I am, but the truth is far from the dreams I dream. Today for example, I wore my OLD NAVY sweat shorts and Washington Hatchets T shirt. That is exactly why today's post is a  DREAM OOTD post.
Most of the time I don't mind posting my hideous outfits, but I know that can get boring...because I wear them a lot!
So let's all dream a little!!!

This is the fabulous, easy to wear, Claudia Jumpsuit.
I love this jumpsuit, I feel like you could comfortably stand out in the crowd wearing it.
AH! Look at this shoe! This is the Brooklyn sandal, and that gold just THE MOST. I think this shoe would bring up the sexy in the Claudia Jumpsuit just enough.

Oh my goodness, the Morrison Medium Patent Leather tote just instantly made me drool. It is so rich in color that it looks edible. This is my kind of "pop of color"!

I keep it pretty simple when it comes to accessorizing. I absolutely LOVE this Marc by Marc Jacobs Katie bracelet. It is RUBBER, I mean how cool is that?

These Kate Spade Locked In studs are just so cute, and add such a sweet edge.

Last but not least, I usually add one ring... and then I am done. This ring is the All For The Want ring by House of Harlow .(have I mentioned I love Nicole Richie?!)

OOTD Yesterday's Look May 12th 2013

Monday, May 13, 2013

This one is a tad late, so I do apologize for that. We had church last night and didn't get home until pretty late, so I had to get some shut eye. No need to worry though, below is yesterday's OOTD:)

This spoon ring was my mom's when she was in highschool, and she gave it to me when I was in highschool:)
It remains one of my favorite rings.

Aren't these Lucky Brand loafers just adorbable? I actually got these at Victoria's Secret online two yrs ago, but have only recently started to wear them this spring. They are so comfy and class up any outfit!!!
