Zoya Matte Velvet Fall 2014 Collection

Saturday, October 25, 2014

Zoya has released their Matte Velvet Fall 2014 Collection, and it is STUNNING!

Find the collection HERE

These polishes have a nice wear time of about 4-5 days, and require no base or topcoat. You can, however, use the Zoya Matte Velvet Top Coat.

All swatches are two coats, except for Loredana, because it is a bit more sheer than the rest.

Overall, I love these polishes for their wear time, quick drying time (about 2 minutes), and trendy texture!!!

I give this collection a 8/10!!!
The only real negatives are that Loredana requires 3 coats, and this velvet matte texture shows every flaw on the nail such as ridges, bumps, or any surface problem you have on your nails.

Dovima by Zoya can be best described as a smoky charcoal-black with strong silver shimmer and a velvety MATTEVELVET finish. This shine-free black is the must have shade for fall! - Zoya

Posh by Zoya can be best described as a medium cool-toned wine red with metallic red shimmer and a velvety MATTEVELVET finish. Impossibly sexy and glamorous, this matte red truly lives up to its name. - Zoya

Harlow by Zoya can be best described as a rich, saturated rose plum packed with sparkling metallic shimmer in a velvety MATTEVELVET finish. A perfect choice for fall or winter that combines rich color with a lush matte finish. - Zoya

Savita by Zoya can be best described as a bold, vibrant medium purple with strong red and gold shimmer with a velvet MATTEVELVET finish. A new take on the matte trend for fall/winter with a pop of bold color. - Zoya

Zoya Nail Polish in Veruschka can be best described as a deep evergreen garnished with strong metallic shimmer in a velvety MATTEVELVET finish. One of this season's hottest colors in a trendy, matte finish! - Zoya

Loredana by Zoya can be best described as a medium gunmetal grey, packed with silvery shimmer and a velvety MATTEVELVET finish. This shade gives the nails the appearance of brushed steel.

Have you ever wanted to sport a "vampy" fall lip without the abrupt harsh outline?
You just might want to make a statement, that will have a more light impression on this changing season!

I want to show you my favorite way to wear a darker lip color, that is soft enough even to wear to the grocery store...without scaring the children.

  • All you have to do to get started, is pick a lip pencil that is one to two shades lighter than the lipstick you are wanting to wear. In this tutorial I am using MAC's Plum Lip Pencil.
Plum is the perfect partner in crime for most dark and shady lipsticks.  So you better go get it because the weather is changing fast!

  • The second step is, line your lips and fill them in all the way until you hit the center of the lips. Taking your vampy lipstick, you will want to ONLY fill in the center of the lips with that shade.
  • Then go back in with your lip pencil, and fill your lips the rest of the way in.
  • Finally, you are left with a softly lined lip, with enough depth for dinner, but a soft enough finish for brunch!

WW | Put Your Trust In The Right Place Psalm 118:8

Wednesday, September 10, 2014

Do you ever feel like once your focus shifts on your physical surroundings, you lose hope? I have been wondering why I have been in this weird funk these past couple of weeks, and I feel like it has become crystal clear to me where it was coming from, and how I was contributing to it.

Besides battling daily chronic pain, and just never feeling fully healthy, I also tend to fall in a pit of negativity quite easily. I am I alone in this? I don't think I am, so that is why I am sharing this personal revelation with you all.

I realized the other day that I was fully relying, and trusting in myself, to get through each day. I was focusing what I didn't have, rather than what I did have. As cliche as it sounds, when you start thinking of all the things  you don't have...your mood can really head south. All the things I don't have, such as health, the energy of a normal girl in her twenties, a house, and just a permanent place to call home, were really crashing down on me.  I allowed myself to get caught up in what I felt I was "lacking", and it really took a toll on my spirit. So literally two days ago, I felt I had a breakthrough, and shattered all the sadness stemming from my attitude.

I simply realized I was putting my trust in myself...what I physically had, and what I physically did not have.

I feel like today's verse isn't just about not putting your trust in your fellow man, but also about not putting your trust in yourself. As a believer, and a Christ follower, I can tell you there is a HUGE difference in quality of life when I put my sole trust in the Lord, and not in myself. I am not perfect, and I am still learning at 25 years old, that I will fail myself. The love of Christ is unfailing, and I don't know why as believers, we tend to forget that. It's like "Oh I am having a bad day, I suck at life...how could God love me?!"... He loves you through all of that silliness, and I can assure you He will love you through all of your future silliness.

So when you're feeling let down, ask yourself this one question:
"Who am I putting my trust in today?".
Because if you're putting your trust in the Lord, you will feel lighter, and completely free from the stresses of what you do and don't have.

Thank you all for your support and constant love! It means the world to me! I hope this post encourages you, and helps lighten your load a little:) Remember, Jesus loves you!

WW | You Will Have Tribulation

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

Today's WW is all about making it through whatever we have to go through emotionally, physically, and mentally in life, and not adding the very evident pressure of "I should be happy every single day because ___ (fill in the blank)".

Despite popular belief, every day is NOT a Friday, and I don't think that is a very manageable expectation for our lives.

I was recently at the store, and saw shelves full of "Christian" self help books that made me shake my head and sigh. It almost made me plain upset because, just like the complaint that magazines cause body image issues, I truly believe these sort of books cause "life image" issues. I mean let's be honest...sometimes life sucks, and we have to go through trials. Trials are not called "weekends" or "birthday parties" for a reason. Trials serve a purpose, and that purpose is to mold us, and make us stronger individuals.

We must go through hard times, and life altering moments, to sharpen and make us a better version of ourselves.

I really believe as "Christians" or "believers", there is this expectation to always have a smile on our face, and a skip in our step, because after all...we have faith. Too bad King David, or even Job aren't here to tell you about all the times they didn't have a smile on their face.

Now this post isn't just to complain, or to whine. It is to take the burden of these ridiculous expectations off of your shoulders. I mean hey...you might just be having a bad day today, and that is OK!

The verse above really hit home with me, because even when we cast our cares upon the Lord, sometimes we still struggle with whatever we are going through. I don't believe God is here to wave His magic wand once we surrender our burdens to Him, and just make all the bad disappear. In fact, I believe the verse above means that once we give Him our worries, He walks with us through that trial so we learn, and become better for ourselves and others. Who doesn't want to become better each day? If that requires some testing, I feel that we should surrender all, and say, so be it! Even if it doesn't tickle our fancy!

The verse says the Lord will sustain us. The word sustain means to strengthen or support physically or mentally. So if you are feeling guilty because of your sadness or anger through a trial...please know that you are NOT sinning. You are also NOT disappointing God because your days don't consist of sequential Fridays. He is here to sustain us through trials and tribulations, and knows that these times of trouble won't make us smile, but they will make us stronger so we can smile once we make it through.

I know this post will step on some toes, but I also know it will relieve a lot of us (myself included) of the pressure to have perfect, happy go lucky lives. I will leave you all with this verse...

John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world

MOTD | MAC A Novel Romance

Friday, August 22, 2014

MAC recently released a very gorgeous, jewel toned, perfect for fall/winter collection...A Novel Romance. Despite it's cheesy inspiration, this collection is romantic all on its own! Today I created a look using some of my haulage from the collection.

Starting out, I used my ol' faithful Urban Decay Eden Primer, then I whipped out the quad An Amorous Adventure. Here is how I achieved this gorgeous jewel toned eye look:

- Apply Sable on the lid, up to the crease
- Apply Brawn in the crease, all the way into the inner corner
-Apply Sex & The Oyster in the crease, up to the inner corner (stopping slightly before the inner corner)
- Apply the Electric Cool Eyeshadow in Blacklit in the outer V
- Apply Black Tied right over Blacklit to set

Now we have come to the eye lining portion of this deal. These Fluidline Eye Pencils are pretty much self explanitory...they are literally a fluidline, in a pencil form...and I am obsessed. The only thing I don't like about these new eyeliners, is the packaging. It is super plastic-y and feels cheap, just like the Stila Smudgesticks.
Enough of the packaging rant...here is how I applied them:

-Apply Black Brilliance to upper lashline, and create a cat eye. Also tightline the upper waterline to ensure a deep smoky look.
-Apply Water Willow (hello gorgeousness!) to the lower lashline, and waterline. Smudge the lower lashline with Sex & They Oyster (such a great pairing with Water Willow)
-False lashes are optional!

Lastly it is time for the lips! I only picked up 3 lippies from this collection, and I love them all! Since I was going for a deep fall look today, I reached for MAC's Hearts A Flame.

-Apply MAC Lip Pencil in Stone
-Apply MAC Hearts A Flame

I am so in love with this collection, I am trying to hold the urge back to pick up even more! Definitely check this out at your local counter ladies...or just order some of this gorgeousness IMMEDIATELY!!!

ZOYA Naturel Deux (2) Collection

Thursday, August 14, 2014

Zoya recently released a GORGEOUS "neutral" collection that followed it's predecessor The Naturel Collection. This new Naturel  Deux Collection is filled with gorgeous fall, neutral colors, that will simply make you crave falling leaves, and hot chocolate.

Here is what  Zoya states about the collection:

It's here!! The NEW Zoya Naturel Deux (2) Collection is here! Available exclusively at
www.zoya.com and professional salons, spas and beauty supply centers.

The ultimate neutral palette expands the original immensely  popular neutral palette
of the Zoya Naturel collection with six (6) NEW, full-coverage creams in deeper hues
that are perfect as every day go-to colors. The Zoya NATUREL DEUX 2 collection bridges
the transitional gap between late summer/early fall 2014 with three, rich brown family
shades and three plum based beauties. All in the long-wearing, BIG5FREE formula Zoya is known for!

The collection consists of 6 new colors.
From Left to Right:
Spencer, Aubrey, Chanelle, Madeline, Emilia, and Marnie.
I love how fallish these names seem. Don't they just sound like ladies who are wearing a pea coats and rain boots?

Let's get to swatches!

All of these pictures were taken in natural sunlight/dreary light, because the sun has not wanted to show itself here in Anchorage lately. I applied two coats of each polish, with no topcoat...these polishes are just THAT shiny!

Spencer is described as full-coverage, rich camel cream.

Aubrey can be described as a full coverage, medium mauve cream.

Chanelle can be described as a full coverage, toasted almond cream.

Madeline can be described as a full coverage, muted rose cream.

Emilia can be described as a full coverage, dark chocolate cream.
(Can you tell I struggled with this one :(. I don't know what happened, but it looks like there was an earthquake while I applied this one.)

Marnie can be described as a full coverage, deep warm plum cream.

Each polish in this collection has an amazingly smooth and even application. If I didn't have ridges in my nails from arthritis, my nails would've appeared nearly airbrushed!

I really love every color in this collection. They each make me feel like I am on my way to a high class coffee shop to warm up from the chill in the Autumn air. So fancy!

Which shades from this collection will you be picking up?

Susanna Paliotta's Luscious Long Hair Secrets

Sunday, August 3, 2014

Susanna Paliotta is not only Mrs. Rhode Island United States, but she is a pilot, entrepreneur, author, and most importantly an amazing mom! She is an anti-bullying advocate, not just to add to her list of accomplishments, but has a true passion for it because of her own horrifying experience.
Her daughter Victoria almost lost her life in a teen bullying incident, and had to have reconstructive surgery to repair the damage done. I commend her for being such an amazing role model for women and young girls! Her other daughter, Isabella, is also a super star like her mom! She is a triple threat plus a pageant champion herself!

Now that you have a little background on this pageant beauty, let's talk about the obvious thing she has that most of us want...HER HAIR.

Susanna immediately took my breath away because of her luscious Disney princess locks. I knew I had to know her secrets! She was kind enough to share with me what her tips and tricks were for achieving the feat of growing, and keeping her hair long and healthy!

Here are my 4 simple secrets to having long beautiful hair.

  1. You don’t need to take a ton of vitamins just take a vitamin A everyday and with in a month you will see a huge difference is the strength of your hair.
  2.  Always wear your hair up in a lose bun for sleeping and in windy situations. If you have shorter hair than sleep with a soft cotton head band this prevents breakage on the top and sides of your scalp.
  3. Drink water like you drink alcohol!..lol We all know alcohol dries out you hair and skin so on those days you drink try and drink as much water as you do liquid fun !
  4. Do a once a week conditioning treatment. I love Moroccan Oil products and use their deep conditioner once a week with a twist.
Wash your hair then apply a thick amount of there conditioning treatment. Heat up a towel in the dryer and wrap you head for 30 mins. When you rinse your hair will feel like an Herbal Essence Commercial ..LOL

By Susanna Paliotta

What amazing tips right?! I am definitely gonna get my hands on some vitamin A, water (with my wine), and Morrocan Oil products! You all know I have struggled with growing out this fine, limp head of hair, so maybe in a few months my hair will be whipping in the wind like a Disney princess like the gorgeous Susanna!

WW | Feeling Useless Jeremiah 29:11

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Do you ever feel like all of a sudden the entire world is spinning around you, and you have no purpose...no plan for your life?

Don't worry...you're not alone.

Recently my husband and I made the HUGE move to Anchorage, and I was feeling super overwhelmed and stressed, but kept reminding myself that the Lord had a plan. I kept saying in my head "He knows what He is doing", but then in my spirit I was saying "Right?!". Surely God doesn't uproot your life completely, move you to basically another country, and not have a plan...right?!

Even though I know that God promises us that He has a plan for our lives, it is hard to truly believe that when you are going through a major transition in your life. During these transitions such as a move, a job change, losing a family member, losing job, or whatever it may be, it is easy to let the world start spinning around us and get lost in the drama of it all. This is when we have to ask the Lord to place His hand on the spinning top of our lives, to make us stop and feel His peace and reassurance.

I had one of these reassuring moments the other day when my husband texted me to look outside.  He told me a pilot was drawing things with his jet stream! I ran outstide to see this amazing feat, and as I looked up I felt a huge childish smile crawl across my face. My hard shell of emotion started to melt away, and I felt the Lord giving me peace and reassuring me that He had everything under control. As small and silly as watching jet stream art may seem, it was a peace instilling moment for me. God knows that simple childish things make me feel complete, and full of joy! He knows His children inside and out, and will provide small moments like this for us to be reminded that He is standing right next to us.

I want to remind you of the passage Jeremiah 29:11 |  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

God does have a plan for you! He promises us this. The plan may be small or big, but either way...He has a plan for you, and that plan will fulfill you and bring Him glory! Be encouraged today, and know that Jesus Christ loves you, and that His love is unfailing...even though we fail Him every single day. Now that is love my friends!

Game of Crowns | Vanassa Sebastian Interview

Monday, July 28, 2014

It is no secret that I LOVE reality TV! I am unashamed and unabashed of my obsession, and am so excited to be teamed up with Bravo TV to bring you all exclusive tid bits from the new show Game of Crowns

Recently, I got to interview one of my favorite cast members from the show, Vanassa Sebastian! Vanassa is not only a beauty queen with a huge personality, but she is an advocate for some amazing causes that include Make A Wish, Special Olympics, organizations that empower women (woot woot!), and many Breast Cancer Foundations. This girl is quite the inspiration!

Let's get down to the "hard-hitting" questions!

Describe your beauty routine in three words:

3p's : Planned, Precise and Perfect

Having lost my father to cancer, my outlook on life changed dramatically. I now see life as a precious and beautiful gift, and not something to just get through day to day. As a breast cancer survivor, how has your outlook on life changed?

Absolutely! Prior to my diagnosis my life was consumed with the end result. However, after my diagnosis, I learned that, it's not about the destination as much as it is about the journey. I learned not to take even the simplest of pleasures for granted,  and to be grateful for all of life's blessing. Sounds so philosophical but it's so true!! In a matter of seconds, my life was turned upside down and all the superficial name brand items that line the shelves of my closet became worthless. It definitely put things in perspective for me. Life instantly became more precious. Every moment means something. Now, I never waste the opportunity to tell someone I love them and I also don't waste my time on people who don't love me back.

I love that you are true to yourself no matter what drama is happening. Can you give some advice on how to remain loyal to yourself, no matter what others are saying?

Don't get me wrong it can be difficult at times especially when you are standing alone, but at the end of the day I can't compromise how I feel or what I believe in just to accepted or in the "popular girls club"....I just can't do it. I need to stay true to myself. This also means being accountable for my actions. It's my heart and soul that answers to a higher power and I need to know at the end of every day, that I was authentic, honest and true to myself and others. No one can ever fault you for that. Some may not want to hear it, some may end up disliking you for it,  but I'm a firm believer that you can't compromise who you are or what you believe in for anyone. Who wants to be known as a liar or fake, someone who is untrustworthy or dishonest? No one!....If you have confidence in yourself and know who you are, you have no problem keeping it real.

What is your number one reason for doing pageants?

Pageants challenge me in so many ways. Mentally, physically and psychologically. I'm inherently a competitive person so I definitely enjoy it. It also gives me a louder voice to promote my  platform / cause. Pageants give me a goal to work towards. My exercise and diet routine is on point when I compete.....what girl doesn't want to be in the best shape of her life??

What is the most shocking thing that you have witnessed and/or heard happen backstage at a pageant?

I've heard stories of dresses getting damaged, heels being broken and clothing going missing. However, in Mrs Pageants, I don't think that happens. I've never had another Mrs. Contestant take it that far. There are mind games involved...it's psychological warfare in the Mrs division. For example, a fellow contestant asking you if your ok because you look so bloated or puffy? Lol

However, if you focus on yourself and be the best version of you, there's no need to engage....Just ignore.

What is the craziest thing you have done in a pageant, whether it be backstage, or for your talent portion?

I've never done anything crazy especially to another contestant. However, I can share a funny story that occurred while I was competing at Mrs America. During our opening number dance, I fell off stage!! Yes!! One minute I was there, the next minute I was gone. I fell off stage, dusted my shoulders off and went right back at it. It was like magic and some spectators, with the exception of my family, never noticed. Lol....I still placed Top 10 :)

What is your number one tip for ladies out there who want to participate in their first Mrs. pageant?

It will be one of the best experiences of your life. Pageants are very insightful. However, you really have to know why you want to compete. What is it that motivates you? What is your ultimate goal? It can't be to just win a sparkly crown. There needs to be more to it....otherwise, you set yourself up for failure.

Everyone wants to make a difference and I always say it's amazing what a little bit of bling can bring. Pageantry gives you a louder voice. It allows you to reach a larger audience.  It's a phenomenal opportunity to inspire other peoples to be the best that they can be and encourage others to get out there and make a difference.

Thank you to Vanassa for answering my questions, and being so entertaining! Heck I think Vanassa has inspired me to compete in Mrs. Alaska!

If you guys haven't already checked out Game of Crowns on Bravo, you need to...trust me! It airs TONIGHT at 10/9C! Don't forget to follow me on Twitter and live Tweet the show with me.
